Leadership Studies Sequence The Leadership Studies Sequence Program sponsored by the Kravis Leadership Institute is designed for Claremont McKenna College students interested in pursuing a career involving the scholarly study and practice of leadership, who feel that an understanding of leadership would be helpful to them in another career, or who have a casual interest in the subject. Completion of the Sequence will be noted on the student's transcript. A total of five courses from the following categories and choices are required to complete the Sequence. View the complete course listing of the Leadership Sequence. Leadership Conversations 2011 Would you like a chance for an up front and personal conversation with leaders? The Kravis Leadership Institute (KLI) is pleased to provide you with that opportunity! We’re talking about conversation here. It is relatively informal - no canned speeches, no PowerPoint presentations. Just real conversations. Sign up to come to one or two Leadership Conversations scheduled on Thursday, October 20th, from 3-5pm at the Kravis Center. As you know, the Kravis Center Dedication is being held on Friday, October 21st. We want to showcase the best part of CMC: YOU! At the same time, we want to give you an opportunity to network with a few of our leaders! Here’s how it works: Since KLI’s board members will coming to campus on Thursday October 20th, we wanted to create a space for students and KLI board members to discuss some aspect of leadership. There will be three teams each hour; each team will consist of two board members, who will focus on a particular subject of conversation, and you, the participants! The conversations last 50 minutes; the first session goes from 3-4pm, and the second session is from 4-5pm. Each will be located in the Kravis Center. Are you excited yet?! Leadership Day 2010: Entrepreneurship and You (Check out photos from Leadership Day '10 here!) ILA Student Case Competition and Annual Conference (Check out photos from ILA '10 here!) For the last two years Team KLI has placed as top finishes in this dynamic student competition, held as part of the International Leadership Association's Global Conference. "Team KLI" has done it again in 2010, bringing home the first place award, besting 9 other teams! Learn more about their presentation by reading the recent webstory. The next ILA Global Conference and Student Case Competition will be October 26-29 in London, UK. KLI is now recruiting students and accepting applications for next fall's team. Apply online NOW! Each fall, incoming sophomores have an opportunity to apply and expand their leadership knowledge during a four-day experiential learning trip, the Sophomore Leadership Experience, held at a camp in the mountains above CMC. The trip includes large and small group activities designed to give students increased self-awareness, facilitate group bonding and develop leadership skills. The program includes a day spent on Low and High Ropes courses and is put on by the Kravis Leadership Institute with support from the Dean of Students Office. KLI will subsidize this program in its entirety. View the SLE homepage for more detailed information regarding next year's Experience. This year the program ran from August 25 to 28, 2011. An information session will be held on April 19 at 6:00pm at the Athenaeum (RSVP by Friday 4/15 required). A link to the online application is available on the SLE homepage. CMCStudent.com Web-based Entrepreneur Competition The CMC Student web-based entrepreneur award recognizes a current CMC student or group of current CMC students for web-based business planning or accomplishment. Groups can submit non-profit or for-profit proposals, but must be fundamentally web-based initiatives. Spring 2011 will be the final year of this award. See further information here. Faculty Research Grants In the summer of 1998, the Kravis Leadership Institute began awarding research grants to Claremont McKenna College faculty who were interested in research or curriculum development that investigated leadership, broadly defined.
